Position Summary...

The Marketplace Category Director is the leader of an SBU team in Marketplace Account Management (there are 5 SBU leads). This individual is responsible for owning the overall Marketplace category strategy, in alignment with the 1P Merchant strategy. This individual is responsible for driving this strategy in conjunction with their Business Development counterpart, as well as their Account Management counterparts in China and IMD, and their 1P counterpart (this individual maps to the 1P Merchant VPs).

This role is accountable to develop/drive the category strategy, lead a team of 3-5 account managers, grow overall Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) agnostic of global account ownership, partner with 1P and Global teams, plan MP events & campaigns with DX, and build trusted relationships with their seller base on the Walmart Canada marketplace. This role will also be the account owner for all of the large, strategic sellers/brands/retailers in their SBU, while leading an account management team that manages the broader seller base.

This role must also lead and train their account management team to enable sellers to successfully generate sales on the Walmart Canada marketplace, set KPIs, and manage overall team performance. This role is a member of the Marketplace Account Management leadership team and must contribute to overall strategy, AOP process, and team culture initiatives. In addition to driving overall GMV growth, this role is accountable for risk management of seller partners and item quality (i.e. offensive content) across their seller base.

What you'll do...

1. Responsible for developing the category strategy that will enable the team to exponentially grow, leading highly complex marketplace analytics, and plan all tactics (MP events and campaigns) to drive performance and grow the category GMV and market share

2. Key point-of-contact for Digital Experience team to ensure MP online exposure and event/campaign execution for their category

3. Partner with Merchandising team to align on MP go-to-market category strategy e.g., filling assortment gaps, go-get brands, onboarding extended aisle of current 1P vendors, transitioning DSV vendors to 3P etc.

4. Engage, influence and collaborate with Walmart China and International Marketplace Development (IMD) to leverage international resources and grow GMV from cross-border sellers in their category

5. Lead a team of 3-5 account managers to achieve all KPIs (GMV, commission rate, WFS penetration, price win/draw, CTP, etc) and build overall employee engagement and development

6. Partner with the activation team to ensure category exposure in all key marketing vehicles

7. Own the Have It project for the category to activate high demand items/sellers on the platform

Qualifications

  • 10-15+ years of eCommerce, merchandising, or account management required
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cross-functional collaboration, problem solving, and comfort working with digital teams is a must
  • Experience in complex retail analytics and reporting
  • Comfort working with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Salesforce
