Position Summary...

This role ensures the successful execution of construction projects through effective budget management, strategic planning, compliance enforcement, and team leadership.

What you'll do...

This role manages construction budgets by advising on pre-construction budgets, tracking financial reports, and working with contractors to resolve claims. Responsibilities include reviewing and approving contractor payments, change orders, and invoices, while managing project scope and contingencies.

The role also provides overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs. This involves developing, communicating, and implementing business strategies and plans. The role analyzes costs and forecasts, supports resource requirements, and evaluates operational processes to ensure desired results. Promoting a customer-focused environment and encouraging continuous learning are key aspects.

Leadership and guidance are crucial in this role, providing feedback on new prototypes and design initiatives. The role stays updated on industry best practices and suggests improvements. Developing strategies to attract and maintain a skilled workforce is also essential, including recruiting, talent development, and succession planning.

Compliance with laws and regulations is enforced by establishing and monitoring performance standards for contractors. The role collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement design changes, resolves noncompliance issues, and maintains certifications. Ensuring the quality and functionality of construction projects through the warranty period is also a responsibility.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead capital planning and budgeting at the program level for all major renovation projects across Canada, including forecasting and financial oversight.
  • Develop and coach a high-performing team of 12+ full-time employees and third-party construction managers responsible for delivering large-scale remodel projects annually.
  • Manage contractor performance by maintaining a vetted portfolio of prequalified general contractors, setting clear standards for quality, safety, schedule, and cost, and providing feedback based on measurable outcomes.
  • Serve as the escalation point for contract disputes, change orders, and schedule/phasing adjustments, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on project delivery.
  • Drive operational excellence by championing innovation, implementing process improvements, and fostering team engagement through recognition of incremental successes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 15+ years of progressive industry experience, including capital construction program management.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams responsible for budgeting and delivering large-scale capital projects (annual program value exceeding $100M strongly preferred).
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, influence decisions, and present to senior executives.
  • Hands-on experience with grocery remodels in active store environments; familiarity with refrigeration systems strongly preferred.

The pay range for this position is $133,200.00 - $183,150.00. Pay will be determined based on relevant experience.
