As a member of Canada’s Local Internal Controls (LIC) Team, the Manager - Internal Controls, reports to and supports the Director in management of the Control function across Walmart Canada. The Manager will assist with the implementation and carrying out Control strategic plans, policies, and best practice initiatives. You will support the Director to partner with other local and corporate finance and operational leaders to develop the appropriate strategies and implement best practices that will enable operational excellence in the management, accounting, and reporting of Walmart Canada’s business. This position will partner with a professional work team responsible for the more complex and technically challenging areas of the company i.e., accounting, tax, information technology, store operations, anti-corruption compliance etc.
The Manager will also be responsible for the design and effectiveness of the Internal Control framework by improving and creating accounting processes to meet all operational, and GAAP requirements as well as supporting evolving future business growth. More specifically, you will partner closely with local and corporate teams, to identify opportunities to improve the overall Walmart Canada control environment, including design and execution and accountability of controls where applicable. As accounting and IT issues arise, you will be a key advisor to the Control owners to address SOX implications and improvements needed.
The role will also include leading internal control advisory support for acquisitions as well as changes to processes or IT systems/automation initiatives as Walmart Canada embarks on its transformational journey to a modern architecture.
This position will recruit, train, and inspire a team of associates to manage Walmart Canada’s internal controls program.
Job Requirements:
• As directed, lead projects to achieve milestones and objectives and solve unique and complex Control related problems as required.
• Partner with the accounting and IT functions to ensure that Walmart Canada’s financial reporting is accurate and complete.
• Coordinate with local and global teams to ensure compliance requirements are met with US GAAP, SOX, FCPA, GDPR/PIPEDA etc.
• Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the corporate teams in US, to ensure Canada financial controls and process improvements are completed efficiently, and with input from key stakeholders taken into consideration. Ensure that Walmart Canada is represented in the development of strategy and execution of global anticorruption financial controls improvements.
• Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
• Validates control design and effectiveness and identifies process deficiencies by testing performance of control against Company procedures and/or external regulatory or accounting requirements; evaluating process efficiencies; and performing data and analytical analysis.
• Motivate, lead, and coach the internal controls team by providing feedback and assisting in the formulation of personal development plans. Continuously assess and monitor talent development by identifying succession plans and challenging learning opportunities to foster professional growth to support the business.
• Regularly seek opportunities to streamline and strengthen operational controls and processes (i.e., intercompany process) to promote timely and accurate financial statement reporting.
• Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.
• Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans
Additional Qualifications:
• Accounting experience in a publicly traded company.
• Experience and proven ability to work in a fast-paced, high change environment.
• Clear thinking/problem-solving: demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems and successfully lead projects/process improvements within operations/finance functions.

• A minimum of six (6) years of on-the-job experience is required.
• Experience in internal controls, data analytics, and capital project reviews is preferred.
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree, in accounting, finance or related field, is required.
• A Masters or CPA is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404, and COSO Internal Controls Framework, risk assessment practices; Internal Controls over Financial Reporting.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products, specifically Microsoft Excel. Experience with large accounting and maintenance ERP software (SAP a plus).
• A broad understanding of accounting practices (U.S. GAAP) and procedures is required.
• Must have advanced reading and writing skills, the ability to perform intermediate to advanced mathematical calculations, analyze, and review large batches of data, and the ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbally, across all levels of the organization.
• Excellent project management skills: proactive, responsive, takes ownership and accountability, drives processes, meets timelines and critical deadlines.
