Position Summary...

The Senior Manager, Customer Insights, Mission Shop and Seasonal will be the Insights lead for the general merchandise and apparel divisions, along with seasonal events. The primary focus is to deepen customer understanding, provide actionable insight and measurement key stakeholders to inform customer merchandising strategy and tactics. This candidate will be responsible for reporting on mission shop industry growth / market share, and creating, evolving and maintaining a learning plan to drive understanding of driving trip, basket and loyalty in weekly shop relative to competition. This is your opportunity to be a core part of the Customer Insights team and help build customer obsession by delivering actionable customer insights and reporting to guide customer merchant strategy. You will work with key marketing leadership, and business unit leaders to analyze unique business problems, and deliver creative, timely and actionable solutions. An ideal candidate will have a passion for the customer, an analytical mindset, be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, detail oriented and have desire to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. A keen interest in influencing business performance through customer insights is a must.

What you'll do...

1. Develop and lead an integrated short (in year) and long term (3 year) general merchandise insights learning agenda leading to deep customer understanding and measurement plans that drive business performance and growth. This includes scoping insights needs, identifying the optimal approach, leading insights projects and delivering impactful presentations that drive customer centric action.


2. Key strategic insights partner for the Mission Shop (Hardlines, Homeliness, Electronics, Entertainment and Apparel) and Seasonal Events teams. The insights partner provides insights and reporting on those categories that lead to the development of customer-first strategies and tactics to bring customers to Walmart and to measure the behavior through market share and other insights and analytics work.


3. Lead and provide customer foresights on consumer and shopper trends informing long term planning, specifically identifying white space or areas of product / category / customer growth.

4. Identify, integrate and align customer insights with other data across the organizations to deepen insights and identify so-what’s and why’s

5. Manage an on-site team of full time Circana resources to continue to deliver market share reporting, and also start to deliver richer customer insights, this includes driving focus / prioritization of work, assessment of talent and identifying opportunities for enhancement.


6. Project manage and administrate Circana third party agreements, strategic relationships, and vendor research approved by the merchants or marketing (WMG).

7. Responsible for effective / efficient use of a Circana Research Fund, including identifying opportunities for cost efficiencies through relationship, automation, and syndicated research reports / tools

8. Canadian lead /liaison with Walmart US to leverage best practices and share Canadian learnings, as well as partner or lift and adapt to realize efficiencies where applicable

9. Be a champion in building customer obsession and empathy across the Walmart Canada organization. Influence at all levels of the organization and work seamlessly with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in customer insights or research roles. Retail experience is preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in qualitative and quantitative research methods. Experience with different research partners and suppliers.
  • Expert knowledge of Market Share and Syndicated research tools (e.g. Circana and Nielsen)
  • Strong storytelling skills and proven ability in influence different cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to triangulate and distill data from multiple sources into customer insights that address business questions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and changing priorities
