Position Summary...

The Senior Manager, Labour Relations ensures compliance with legal requirements and corporate policies, from a labour perspective, while ensuring the site environment is consistent with a safe, respectful, productive, engaged and supportive atmosphere, free of external interference. This requires proactive identification and mitigation of third-party risks resulting from either internal or external factors. The incumbent will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or necessary.

What you'll do...

  • Develops and manages company response to local, market, and divisional level third party organizing in retail, distribution, and other company facilities by conducting day-to-day company response and associate education at targeted facilities.
  • Directs efforts of first responders and other labor team members dispatched to other market facilities; manages readiness to respond to labor issues for multiple labor markets and in markets with an active third-party campaign by training first responders to conduct initial 48-hour activity response. Advice operations and human resources partners as to lawful practices in the context of third party organizing. Responds to provides advice to facility management and verifies that post-activity facilities continue to practice positive human resources and operations leadership to ensure a rewarding experience for both customers and associates.
  • Manages the assessment of labor relations risks and challenges in assigned division or area by interpreting activity trends and supporting the analysis of opinion survey results; monitors and reports the impact of change initiatives on associate morale. Recommends and leads the implementation of best employment practices and communication strategies to divisional level operations teams; guides and coordinates human resource managers, and operations in execution of engagement strategies; supporting local human resources.
  • Assesses the overall morale in the facility; provides trend information to local human resources; and collaborates with team members and leaders to define and execute divisional labor strategy as well as national labor strategy.
  • Conducts and monitors compliance with management/supervisor labor training for metro-markets, new format facilities, and other locations. Coordinates labor training for new managers and newly promoted managers; evaluates campaign effectiveness; assists with training delivery; and leads responses to unfair labor practice charges in facilities.
  • Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to others in their use and application; ensuring compliance with them; and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy.
  • Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years' relevant experience in HR and/or labour relations
  • 1-3 years’ experience in retail operations is preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ experience managing or administering collective bargaining agreements is preferred.
  • 1-3 years leadership experience
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
  • Strong influencing and presentation skills
  • Highly adaptable with a passion for learning
  • Able to travel as necessary to support the business, including overnight stays
