Position Summary...

This position reports directly to the Senior Director, National Fleet and is directly responsible and accountable for the on-time delivery of approximately $5.5 billion of retail sales freight (inbound & outbound) across the region managing all fleet locations and direct P&L spend in excess of $70 million.

The role is responsible for leading, coaching, developing, and supporting a team of dispatchers, zone operations manager, safety team and entire driver population. This team is comprised of salary and hourly population (~300-400+) across different provinces. This team is a 24/7 operations and the Senior Regional Fleet manage is responsible for executing Fleet end-to-end operations, as well as implementing and executing our health and safety program to ensure that we comply with all laws and regulations (Canadian Labor Code) in the provinces and cities that we operate.

The Senior Manager, Regional Fleet Operations is the primary regional lead and contact for all fleet related matters. The role is responsible to drive and influence our Transportation leaders in areas, but not limited to: routing optimization and efficiency, cost opportunity, IT solutions for Fleet, and business system strategy.

The role is required to work cross functionally with internal and external stakeholders – safety and compliance, people, external vendors, logistics, store operations etc.

What you'll do...

Lead and direct the 24/7 E2E operational activities of the Walmart Fleet team consisting of salaried leaders and hourly associates, between 300 - 400 drivers, 130+ tractors and Dispatch teams spread across several different terminals and in some cases, across different provinces under provincial and federal legislative requirements.

Responsible for leading, coaching, developing and supporting a diverse team while maintaining unbeatable customer service at an industry leading cost.  

Responsible to collaborate and influence cross functional teams both internal to Walmart as well as external to Walmart in the growth of the For hire business of over 3M annually in profit for the company within the first 2 years. 
Accountable to lead all aspects of the fleet as well as being primary regional contact/lead for all inbound and outbound Fleet transportation operations, deliveries, services, and communication to internal and external stakeholders across many different business units such as, stores, logistics, vendors, external agencies, compliance, legal and ecommerce which creates accountability to a P&L of over 70M annually. 

Responsible for leading a multi-disciplined team to drive efficiencies through drivers, equipment utilization, reducing inefficiencies all while balancing service to a variety of customers and significant cost factors protecting both aspects of the business. These plans are multi-facetted and require cross functionally partnership and coordination of resources across multiple sites and this position is responsible of aligning stakeholders from merchants, replenishment, logistics operations, and stores. Responsible for creating and fostering a strong working relationship across key stakeholders.   

Drives the execution and implementation of multiple business plans and projects for Fleet by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning. Responsible to being the voice of our driver population to ensure our associate’s needs are met without compromising business performance. 

Accountable for the execution of numerous cross-functional strategic plans that are imperative to our business. A couple examples include the safety strategy which is not only the safe operation internally but protecting the brand / reputation which would be at risk considering the nature of our operations. Equipment strategy driving utilization to maximize the significant equipment investment across several locations.

Imperative to use multiple data sources to drive analytical based decisions to improve operational performance in a measurable way. Ideally, leveraging Lean Six Sigma processes to standardize key business metrics that enable replication but also fine tuning processes in their components. Leveraging data analytics along with depth & breadth of industry knowledge to drive strategies to address root cause issues and implementation of fact based solutions.

Directly accountable for the safe operation of the regional Fleet protecting our brand reputation, Safety Rating (CVOR / R-Factor) and program management to continually mitigate driver risk for a group traveling in excess of 28 million KM annually. Failing to do this would result in our Fleet license being suspended thus halting operations, unquantifiable brand and reputation risk, insurance premium cost, along with associate safety. 

Directly accountable in the execution and implementation of our Transportation for hire (a new revenue stream from external customers with 3 year growth plans of over 20M annually for Walmart followed by 7% annual growth plans annually).  business across the region. This includes the flawless execution of T4H planning and delivery, customer interaction fostering a positive business relationship, efficient planning to protect the profitability of the for hire business, and communication/influence to both internal and external stakeholders.
